The role


Assessor and Electoral Registration Officer
£91,527 plus Distant Islands Allowance of £2,265 and one-off £5,000 market supplement*

If you are an experienced Chartered Surveyor with the right blend of technical expertise and leadership skills, then this role offers the opportunity to invest your abilities in the most unique of settings.

This role reports into the Orkney and Shetland Valuation Joint Board, fulfilling the statutory requirements of the local taxation service to Orkney Islands Council and Shetland Islands Council, as well as the Electoral Registration Officer role. Key responsibilities for the role and its team are the valuation of non-domestic premises for business rates, council tax valuation for dwellings, and the compilation of the electoral register. But we are also looking for an accomplished manager who can lead a high performing service, get the best from others and support the professional development of a talented team.

Your professional experience to date should include management experience in a similar setting, that has included presenting professional evidence as part of the appeals process. You should also be able to demonstrate how you have led or supported improvement in your service area, and it’s essential that you can bring highly developed people and resource management abilities to the role. In terms of professional qualifications, we expect that you will be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

*A Golden Hello payment of £5,000 will be made upon commencement of post. If the successful applicant leaves the post within 3 years, this payment will be reclaimed on a pro-rata basis. 

A relocation package of up to £6,000 is also payable to support you in a move to the islands.
